Vertical Reality '09

What is it?

Vertical – situated at the highest point.
Reality – that which has existence apart from any idea any mind may have of it, and which would exist if there were no mind anywhere to entertain a thought of it.

Our Father is situated at the highest point. When Isaiah wrote about his vision of God in Isaiah 6, he said he saw the LORD sitting on a throne ‘high and lifted up’. He is far from us, but through Jesus Christ – God who is ‘high and lifted up’ – has drawn near to us. We want you to become aware of the reality of what the gospel has done for us. It has given us access to God – we now have the spiritual capacity to relationally connect to God.

So what is a Vertical Reality weekend about – it is about us learning to use the ‘means’ God has given us to develop a real intimate relationship with Him. Each year we will focus on a spiritual habit, using the spiritual habits not as an ends in themselves, but means to the end and the end is to know God more fully. That is our goal, our desire, the reason why we engage in spiritual habits – to grow in our love and knowledge of Him!

Focus?  Materialism . . . Does God really care about my stuff?

When is it?  April 24-25

Who?  All students 7th-12th grade

Where?  Cedarmore Retreat Center in Baghdad, KY

Cost? $25 ($40 max per family)

How do I sign up?  Signups began March 8, you can fill out card in youth area or online

Parents, we would love for you to be a part of this weekend, you may lead a family group, help us get to Cedarmore and have fun with our students.  E-mail me or call the church office if you are interested.

Doug has been blogging for well over a year now and has recently made some exciting changes. Read below.

Let me explain. My focus will remain the same – discipleship and community within the church and family. But I’ve added another contributor to the blog – my good friend and colleague, Lisle Drury. We have a common vision to encourage parents in the area of family life and leaders/teachers in matters of church life. So, I hope this blog will continue to be a place of mutual encouragement and humble discussion as we do “life together.”
